Niagara and Lakeshore Chapters Merge to form the REIC

Lakeshore-Niagara Chapter

The Real Estate Institute of Canada is pleased to announce that two of the Institute’s chapters have merged together to form one new chapter.  The REIC Niagara Chapter and the REIC Lakeshore Chapter will now be known as the REIC Lakeshore-Niagara Chapter.

The new REIC Lakeshore-Niagara Chapter took shape during a board meeting in mid-March where all the details and concerns regarding the merger were addressed and an agenda was determined on how the new chapter should move forward.

John J. Molnar, FRI CPM® CRP – the president of the Lakeshore Chapter, will serve as the first President of the new REIC Lakeshore-Niagara Chapter.

Molnar cited a larger chapter membership as a key reason for the merger, believing it would help make the chapter more productive. “One reason it was decided to merge the two chapters was one method to garner more activity and involvement.”

More events and member involvement is on the list of goals for this new chapter, Molnar declared. “Some long term goals are to expand membership in the Niagara area and have more chapter activities.

REIC Executive Director Maura McLaren agrees that location is a key component on where this new chapter could go. “The Lakeshore and Niagara area is so distinct and different from the GTA (which is so close in proximity) that having the two smaller chapters come together to form one larger identity was only logical. Our members in this region will hopefully feel a greater sense of belonging within their chapter community and experience the changes as this new chapter continues to grow.”

Former REIC National President and formerly a member of the Niagara Chapter Steve Leistner, FRI(A) CMOC CRU CRP agrees that this merger can help the Niagara chapters go places it couldn’t before – now that its partnered with the REIC Lakeshore Chapter. “The merger is of great benefit to the Niagara members as it offers a larger forum for discussions and networking. We (Niagara and Lakeshore) also share similar demographics and economic issues.”

The new REIC Lakeshore-Niagara Chapter joins the REIC London Chapter and the REIC Windsor-St. Clair Chapter as REIC chapters that are located within Southwest Ontario.
